A 28-year-old Kadoma man has been sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of armed robbery and rape by the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court.
The court that on August 18, 2025, the convict, identified as Gazi, along with his two accomplices who are still at large, forcibly entered a couple’s home at Masendeke Compound, Battlefields.
Armed with a machete, the trio assaulted a man who was in the house and stole US$100.
Gazi then abducted a woman who was also in the house and took her to a nearby bush where he raped her twice. The victim later managed to escape and made a police report.
The convict was subsequently apprehended by members of the public at Chivaura Mine.
Clothing items linked to the crime were recovered and produced as evidence during the trial.
Gazi was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for robbery and 20 years for rape, resulting in an effective 25-year custodial sentence.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe reiterated that gender-based violence remains a serious crime. It warned that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law, while survivors’ rights to justice and dignity will be upheld.
