Kadoma City Council has taken delivery of a new refuse compactor and three open trucks in a development that is expected to boost service delivery in the gold mining town. The brand new refuse compactor is reportedly valued at about $300 000.
Council had been plagued by acute transport shortages in the past as its refuse compactors were affected by constant breakdowns thereby compromising service delivery.
The situation forced council to rely on tractors to collect refuse.
Kadoma City’s finance director, Mrs Faustina Zhou, disclosed the latest development recently while presenting council’s first quarter annual report to stakeholders.
“Council has bought a new refuse compactor and three pick-up trucks. One of the trucks arrived a fortnight ago. However, we are still awaiting delivery of the other vehicles anytime soon,” she said.
Mrs Zhou however, bemoaned non-payment of the roads levy by the motoring public.
“The motoring public is not contributing towards the roads levy and we are currently depending on Zinara funds to repair roads,” she said.
