HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu predicts an entertaining match against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams have 44 points in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, with Highlanders third due to a superior goal difference.
The teams share an identical record this season of 11 wins, 11 draws, and seven losses. Highlanders have scored 34 goals, while Manica Diamonds have 21.
The last time the two teams met was at Barbourfields Stadium and the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Kaindu who will be out to outwit his opposite number Jairos Tapera says the match is a potential thriller.
“It will be one of the most interesting games this season. We’re tied on points, wins, defeats, and draws. Goal difference is the only separator. It’ll be an open game; we want to get maximum points,” Kaindu said.
“With not so many games left, this match against Manica Diamonds is crucial. We hope to apply ourselves fully and secure maximum points.”
The international break aided Highlanders’ preparations, allowing injured players to recover.
However, Nqobile Ndlovu is out. Prince Ndlovu and Mvelo Khoza have returned from national team duty and should be part of the match day squad on Sunday.
“The break helped slightly. We had minor injuries to players who travelled with the junior national team, but they’re available, adding depth to our squad. It’s motivating to have young players participating in junior competitions, bringing positive energy to the club,” Kaindu added.

Bosso vice-captain Peter Muduhwa said: “It’s a tough match, we must focus and follow the coach’s instructions. I’m confident we’ll get a good result.”
Manica Diamonds will be without the trio of Trevor Mavhunga, Tawanda Chisi and goalkeeper Tadios Baye for the crucial encounter.
In other matches set for this weekend, table-toppers Simba Bhora have a tricky tie against Herentals at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow. The Shamva-based side have accumulated 60 points this season and look well on course to win their maiden league title this season.
Chicken Inn buoyed on by their 1-0 slender win over Dynamos take on TelOne under pressure to deliver to ensure a top five finish. They showed a lot of character in withstanding Dynamos’ onslaught at Rufaro Stadium and will count on Joseph Thulani, Itai Mabhunu and Michael Charamba all their key players carrying the day on the pitch.
Chris Mverechena and Xolani Moyo have added some steel on to TelOne’s relegation fight.
Second-placed FC Platinum who have not given up chase of the leaders though, are nine points behind the leaders with five games left to play will welcome Yadah at Mandava Stadium.
Chegutu Pirates are away to Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium also tomorrow.
