FORM or no form, blood will boil at Rufaro.
Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu has sent out a chilling reminder to fans and rivals alike. Sunday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League blockbuster between Dynamos and Bosso remains the biggest fixture in Zimbabwean football. Forget the current table. Forget the form books. Kaindu says what’s coming on Sunday is pure football war.
“This is not just a game. This is a big game. You can feel it in the dressing room. The boys are pushing hard, everyone wants to be part of the team. There’s tension, hunger, fire,” said Kaindu.
Highlanders are limping into the fixture after back-to-back losses to ZPC Kariba and Herentals. Dynamos, meanwhile, have only one win from their last 14 games and are dangerously close to the drop zone.
But when these two titans clash, the log means nothing.
“This fixture is different,” said Kaindu. “It comes with pride. It comes with pressure. It’s a battle that lifts players. It wakes up giants.”
Dubbed the Battle of Zimbabwe, the showdown between the country’s most decorated sides is always explosive. And this one, set for Rufaro Stadium, promises to be no different.
Kaindu believes Sunday’s clash could be a turning point in Bosso’s season.
“We may have lost two in a row, but how you rise from that matters most,” he said. “We’ve seen it before. These games have come when both teams were struggling. But on the day, it’s about heart. It’s about rising above the pain.”
Highlanders will miss fullback Archford Faira through injury. But there’s a huge boost as defender Talent Dube and veteran goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda have returned to full training and could feature.
Kick-off has been brought forward to 2PM to accommodate players who might be called up for next week’s international friendlies in Morocco.
At Rufaro, the tension is already building. Fans are buzzing. Traders are prepping. Police are tightening security. The capital is ready to witness Zimbabwe’s fiercest football rivalry erupt once more.
And while Dynamos are wounded and Bosso are rattled, this fixture isn’t about statistics. It’s about legacy, loyalty, and lifting your chin when the entire nation is watching.
“The boys know what it means,” Kaindu said. “You can see it in their eyes. They’re ready.”
