Kaisa Arts urges dancers to invest in their future

Some female dancers have lost their dignity in the eyes of revellers who view them as morally decadent.
Kaisa Arts and Sound-Tainment came into existence in 2003 comprising 18 members and is based in Mpopoma in Bulawayo. Perseverance and dedication saw only eight members remaining in the group while others left.

In an interview, Mathanda said artistes needed to appreciate performing arts as passion-driven.
“Many artistes should appreciate that performing arts are driven by the passion one has for a particular activity, be it dancing, singing or performing as a group.
“As long as up-coming artistes focus on money, they will never last. Instead they should work hard and emulate groups that have come a long way to be where they are today and among them is Umkhathi Theatre and Iyasa,” he said.

Mathanda said Kaisa Arts Sound-Tainment would embark on a tour this year with the intention to bring something different into the arts industry.
He said a unique feel could be brought in                                 the arts through tours that expose artistes to new things.
“We are set to tour Botswana. We adopted the Setapa dance routine as a way of complementing their unique culture. Staging shows alongside other groups will spice up our dance routines into something unique,” he said.

Mathanda added that performing groups should strive to uphold the arts in a respectable manner as he had always encouraged his group to pray before and after staging a show.

He believes staying close to God helps a dancer fear evil, thus maintain a sense of decency.
“It is important for other performing groups to desist from alcohol abuse when about to perform particularly girls because revellers judge them at face value,” he said.

Mathanda also said performing groups should be organised by acquiring their own musical instruments so that they can be hired at any given time with all the proceeds being directed to the group.

The group will soon stage shows in Domboshava, Harare’s City Sports Bar, Club Pulse and Destiny, then later embark on the Botswana tour.
