FORMER Zimbabwe international, Kaitano Tembo is on his way to newly promoted South African Premiership side Durban City FC as assistant to new head coach, Gavin Hunt.
The two worked together at SuperSport United before Hunt left to join Bidvest Wits.
Hunt, a four-time Premiership-winning coach joins the KwaZulu-Natal outfit after a brief hiatus from the dugout. Hunt parted ways with SuperSport United in March 2025 following a string of unfavourable results, an exit that came shortly after he marked his remarkable 1000th game in a managerial career.
Durban City FC confirmed Hunt’s appointment in a statement issued yesterday.
The ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach steps in to replace Simo Dladla, who recently parted ways with the club despite guiding them to the Betway Premiership by winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.
Dladla has since joined AmaZulu FC as assistant coach, with Arthur Zwane continuing in his role as head coach at the club.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City. His record speaks for itself. We believe he is the right person to lead our team into this exciting new era,” said club boss Farook Kadodia.
“His professionalism, football knowledge and winning mentality are exactly what the Club needs as we strive to compete at the highest level.”
“With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades at the top level of South African Football, Hunt brings a wealth of experience, having won multiple league titles and domestic trophies,” added Durban City in a statement.
“His strong leadership style and results-driven approach align perfectly with Durban City’s ambitions as we prepare for the upcoming 2025/ 2026 Betway Premiership season.”
Hunt is reportedly set to be joined by Kaitano Tembo as his assistant. —Sports Reporter/Farpost.
