Kaitano’s team on shopping spree

JOHANNESBURG. Sekhukhune United’s recruitment drive has continued after the club surpassed the double-figure mark for new signings on Tuesday.

Sekhukhune are now under the guidance of Zimbabwean coach, Kaitano Tembo.

They are set to take part in just their second DStv Premiership campaign after enjoying a respectable maiden outing in the South African top-flight last season.

Babina Noko finished the 2021/22 campaign with 33 points to end the year in 11th position on the league standings and defy pre-season predictions that the club could face a relegation battle.

Sekhukhune – who will be relocating to Limpopo – looks set to build on those per-formances after completing five new signings on Tuesday, taking their overall recruitment into double figures.

Cote d’Ivoire international, Badra Ali Sangaré, arrives from JDR Stars while the services of Thamsanqa Masiya and Wonderboy Makhubu from Baroka FC, Lesego “Mish” Sebetlela from La Masia and Congolese defender Trésor Tshibwabwa Yamba Yamba from Red Arrows have all been acquired.

The quintet’s respective arrivals take the number of new faces at the club into double figures after Denwin Farmer, Train Tshepo Mokhabi, Abednego Mosiatlhaga, Linda Mntambo, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Elias Mokwana were all previously signed.

There has, however, been a clearout of sorts as well with no fewer than 14 players from last season’s squad having already been shown the exit door, including for-wards Evans Rusike and Justin Shonga.

Ayanda Dlamini, Tapuwa Kapini, Sello Motsepe, Cheslyn Jampies, Lucky Boy Mokoena, Tshediso Patjie, Tumelo Maton, Sibusiso Mbonani, Siyabulela Shai, Seun Ledwaba, Charlton Mashumba and Rebone Ntsoane are the other confirmed departures.

Sekhukhune United have also emerged as hot favourites to sign midfielder Ndumiso Mabena, a source revealed to KickOff.com.

According to reports, Mabena has since been released from Royal AM, however, the club is yet to confirm his departure.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder was on the wanted list of Maritzburg United last season but decided to stay with The Spice people.

It has since emerged that Sekhukhune are considering signing Mabena in a bid to bolster their squad for the 2022/23 season.

“Sekhukhune are keen to sign Ndumiso Mabena. He is a free agent now after parting ways with Royal AM recently,” said the source.

Sekhukhune have already completed the signing of Linda Mntambo, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Denwin Farmer in preparations for the new season. – KickOff.com
