is looking forward to working with local artistes during his stay in the country.
Tony Digital, who is on holiday, works as a talent scout, producer and DJ at the Oskido-run Kalawa Jazzme record stable. Among some of his duties is identifying potential talent in the dance music genre and give feedback to Oskido.
He has worked as a producer on albums by the likes of Oskido, Black Motion and Professor among many others.
In an interview, Tony Digital said he was looking forward to working with local artistes although he was yet to identify anyone in particular.
“I have heard a lot about the local dance scene here in Bulawayo and I am looking forward to seeing what the guys are capable of. I have been here for only a few days so I am yet to see all the artistes but working with guys from Bulawayo is something I am keen on,” he said.
He said his job at Kalawa mainly comprised doing groundwork for Oskido through identification of young artistes with the potential to be part of the popular music stable.
Tony Digital said his latest visit to Bulawayo would afford him the opportunity to do that outside Kalawa’s usual hunting ground of South Africa.
“I have been working at Kalawa for the past six years as a talent scout and resident DJ and it has been a pleasurable experience.
“My work entails going out there and looking for acts that have the talent to work for Kalawa Jazzme and my coming here presents an opportunity for me to do that outside South Africa,” said Tony Digital.
He said that he had been around a few of the clubs in Bulawayo and although the quality of Djaying was good, he was unimpressed with the lack of variety in the music played by local DJs.
“I have been to a few clubs during my brief stay here in Bulawayo and I have been impressed with what I have seen thus far. However, I feel that the DJs do not like taking risks and the result is that they all play the same songs,” he said.
Tony Digital made a guest appearance at Club Forty40 on Friday night while he also held a show at Jock and Saddle on Saturday.
