Kamambo vs Chiyangwa

FORMER ZIFA president, Felton Kamambo, was yesterday summoned to court in the matter he is accused of ‘harassing’ businessman Phillip Chiyangwa.

The property mogul is also a former ZIFA boss.

It is alleged Kamambo was sending Chiyangwa some “annoying” text messages.

Kamambo was not placed on remand.

He was given another date because his lawyers hadn’t been furnished with State papers and the trial could get underway.

Kamambo is accused of violating the Postal and Telecommunications Act, for “sending by phone any message that he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to any person”.

Kamambo and Chiyangwa worked together in the ZIFA executive committee between 2015 and 2018.

It is the State’s case that on November 19, 2019, Kamambo sent false and annoying WhatsApp messages to Chiyangwa, which read:

“Hie president. You are urged to stop your funny and negative interferences with football.

“Meanwhile, urgently start accounting for all the ZIFA money you stole.”

The State alleged that these messages had the effect of causing annoyance, and inconvenience, to Chiyangwa.

He filed a police report leading to Kamambo’s arrest.

Thomas Chanakira appeared for the State.
