US-based Zimbabwean sprint hurdles star Ashley Miller-Kamangirira has returned home to fine-tune her preparations for this month’s African Senior Athletics Championships while also investing in the development of young athletes.
The national record holder is set to host the inaugural Ashley Tinashe Youth Track & Hurdler Clinic at the University of Zimbabwe tomorrow, where between 60 and 80 young athletes and coaches are expected to take part in a high-performance training programme.
Miller-Kamangirira, daughter of former Zimbabwe sprinter Kudakwashe Kamangirira, is the first US-born athlete to represent Zimbabwe on the international stage. Her clinic is aimed at nurturing emerging talent while sharing elite-level training techniques with aspiring athletes and local coaches.
The hurdler has enjoyed a busy and productive season, competing at high-profile meets across the United States, Ethiopia, Botswana and South Africa. In her most recent outing, she broke Zimbabwe’s women’s 300m national record at the Simbine Classic Continental Tour held at Pilditch Stadium. With her sights firmly set on qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Miller-Kamangirira is building momentum ahead of the continental showpiece.She is expected to be one of Zimbabwe’s top medal prospects at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana, scheduled for May 12–17. — Agencies
