HIGHLANDERS left back Bruce Kangwa is reportedly giving the Bulawayo giants’ executive the runaround over the renewal of his contract which expires at the end of next month.
The 27-year-old Kangwa, hailed as one of the most committed players at Highlanders has been with Bosso since 2009 when he was signed by then coach Madinda Ndlovu from Railstars. His current deal of two years ceases to exist on 31 March and the Bosso leadership is keen to make sure that he extends his stay.
However, sources close to the negotiations said Kangwa was giving those tasked with trying to convince him to stay at Highlanders a hard time as he keeps them guessing on whether he will sign or not amid fears that he could have been offered a better package elsewhere.
Club chairman Peter Dube said he could not comment on the talks with Kangwa as there were people tasked with ensuring that the 27-year-old stays.
“I cannot comment on Bruce Kangwa there are club negotiators, it is being handled by them,” Dube said.
Fears by Highlanders is that with the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League transfer window still open, Kangwa could choose to reunite with his former coach Kelvin Kaindu now at How Mine. Kaindu on Friday said Kangwa was a Highlanders player and the decision to either stay or move lay solely with him (Kangwa).
Kangwa has proved pivotal at Bosso with his ability to fit in on the left side of the defence or on the same wing in attack. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the player, Kangwa appeared committed at training when this reporter visited the team’s workout session at Barbourfields Stadium last Tuesday, the same day that coach Erol Akbay arrived in the country to officially assume his job.
