A NEW social soccer league has been formed by disgruntled clubs previously affiliated to the Bulawayo Social Soccer League. The breakaway Bulawayo Western Social Soccer League appointed have already appointed an interim executive led by Colleen Dube, who has been tasked with creating the initial structures of the league. BWSSL secretary, Daniel Mlotshwa said they came up with the new body in order to create a conducive league that would accommodate “not so well to do clubs”.
He said they left BSSL because of “some difficulties” in meeting the registration and affiliation fee.
“We do not want to say much about BSSL but we found it hard to pay the registration and affiliation fee of $35. Despite our efforts to negotiate for lower rates the executive felt they could not reduce them,’’ said Mlotshwa.
“Yes there are other issues at BSSL but I think what is critical for now is to move on and work on creating a professional league that would accommodate various teams and give them an environment where their people can enjoy the game. We feel Premiership players should be allowed to be part of us while we should have room for guest players. However, the age limit is 28 years for anyone who wants to feature in the league,” said Mlotshwa.
He said they had currently registered 10 teams, but were looking at increasing the number to 16 before the end of March. Clubs that are on BWSSL’s books include Zulu Chiefs, Ndola Stars, Magwegwe United, Mabutweni Allstars, Fireworks, Drugs Section, Mayellow FC, Finance, Nketa 8 Oldtimers and Real Magwegwe.
Mlotshwa said there were clubs that have already expressed interest in joining their league but were yet to register and was confident they would reach 16 within two months.
