GURUVE North National Assembly member-elect Brigadier-General Walter Kanhanga (Retired) has commended people from his constituency for voting for him and Zanu-PF overwhelmingly in the just-ended harmonised elections. Rtd Brig-Gen Kanhanga, who is also a member of the Zimpapers board, garnered 21 911 votes against MDC-T’s Mr Andrew Mupunga and Kudakwashe Chimanikire of the MDC, who amassed 2 118 and 683 votes respectively.
In an interview yesterday, Rtd Brig-Gen Kanhanga said: “I want to thank the electorate for coming out and voting in their numbers. It was very cold on this particular day, but people embraced the cold weather as they came out in their numbers to vote”.
Rtd Brig-Gen Kanhanga thanked the people for voting peacefully and urged everyone to maintain the peace throughout the country. He said his development plans for the next five years would soon be deliberated on together with councillors from his constituency. “We expect to come up with a plan each year which would be reviewed at the end of the year,” he said.
“After three years we would then have a complete review of all the projects before we start again with the annual plans.”
Rtd Brig-Gen Kanhanga said the review of projects would help his team to identify areas of need and the impact of implemented projects.
Brig-Gen Kanhanga (Rtd) is one of the three Zimpapers board members who won as members of the National Assembly in the elections.
The other two were the group’s chairman Dr Paul Chimedza, who garnered 7 927 votes in Gutu South constituency against MDC-T’s Eriam Musendekwa, who lost the election having got 3 723 and Dr Munyaradzi Kereke, who stood on a Zanu-PF ticket despite being expelled from the party.
