A POPULAR Sakubva business woman who is fed up of being accused of having an affair with her driver has approached the Mutare Civil Court seeking protection from the man’s wife.

Margaret Kanyemba, a widow, is the owner of Super Shop at Sakubva Market.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter last week on Thursday.

Kanyemba said every day, her chauffer’s wife, Ketty Madziya, verbally attacks her.

Kanyemba said Madziya is in the habit of damaging her car when her husband takes it home after driving her around during odd hours due to work commitments.

“I have had to take my car to the garage for repairs on countless occasions after Madziya damaged it. Sometimes she throws bricks on the windscreen. She also leaves scratch marks on the vehicle. I have incurred a lot of expenses fixing my car,” said Kanyemba.

She also said Madziya occasionally pays unannounced visits at her shop to insult and assault her.

“She does this in the presence of my employees and this has caused people, even customers, to believe her lies. She keeps on circulating rumours that I am determined to break her marriage, but that is not the case.

“Fellow business people at Sakubva Market now question my morals. Some fear that I might snatch their husbands too,” said the woman.

Kanyemba said some of her employees are now threatening to quit employment because of Madziya’s behaviour.

“Madziya budges into my business premises at any time and disturbs peace. The assaults and insults do not end with me alone. She also vents her anger at other employees, including her husband,” said Kanyemba.

The woman begged the court to bar Madziya from visiting her shop, insulting, assaulting, harassing, threatening and disturbing her peace.

“I want her barred from visiting my shop. She threatens to burn my shop if I continue cheating with her husband, of which my hands are clean,” said Kanyemba.

The business woman said she will not fire Madziya’s husband since he is the family’s sole breadwinner.

Madziya absconded and Mr Chipato issued a default judgement against her.

He granted a protection order against Madziya.

The order bars Madziya from insulting, assaulting, intimidating or threatening Kanyemba. It also bars her from visiting the shop.
