Well the month of July is almost half way and we heard the mid–year exams have begun. So, far so good, the weather is changing already and very soon we will be saying Hello Summer! The MTV African Musical Awards (MAMA’s) are taking place tonight and hope to see who walks away with many gongs. Ne-Yo is already in South Africa for his performance and we hope Cassper Nyovest and Davido will show the boy that Africa is not only blessed but talented as well.
The much waited movie “Terminator Genisys” premièred last week in our cinemas and oh boy, it’s a bore.
Yes, 31 years and counting, and the “Terminators” keep rolling off the assembly line like new iPhones, upgraded with shape-shifting abilities, rebooted Sarah Connor assassination levels and, one presumes, better selfie cameras. Directed by Alan Taylor “Thor: The Dark World)”, is the fifth entry in the series begun by James Cameron and a naked money-grab aimed at rejuvenating a flagging franchise.
The three-plus decades of “Terminator” have spread across the relentless march of technology and the internet, but the movies are curiously stuck between their pre-digital 1980s origins and a dystopian vision of machines’ ruling over the planet.
However many “Terminators” are unveiled, the mechanical heart and soul of the series will always be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800.
He’s the android version of earlier, cast-aside operating systems: a Game Boy with a gun. The muscle man’s return to his most iconic role (he was absent in the forgettable 2009 entry “Terminator Salvation” while governor of California) provides much of the appeal of this otherwise purposeless redo.
The “Terminator” films are about a ceaseless, impossible quest to close the Pandora’s box of technology before it ruins us. But “Genisys” is too busy remixing franchise favourites and setting up further sequels to devote much attention to the sci-fi anxieties that spurred it in the first place. As Alex Garland’s recent “Ex Machina” showed, those are questions worth rebooting.
On fashion side, our man of the moment Kanye West this time has messed up. What in the world was he wearing?
Kimnye were recently spotted at a shop, obviously in Hollywood and Kanye wore shoes which some fashion critics described as a time bomb in the industry. They looked like female wedges.
And still on that note, August Alsina caused chaos on social media as he pulled the “man bun” hairstyle popularised by Kim Kardashian. Where are we going?
Please peeps some things are better left unturned or you end up being clown of the day.
Gadget of the week goes to Staeckler Shoe Storage.
We’ve seen several options for mounting your shoes up a wall, from specialised ones like the Shrine Rack to more versatile solutions like the Strap Wall Organiser.
We doubt there’s ever been any that’s as economical in its use of space as the Staeckler, though. Consisting of nothing more than a pair of hook-like fixtures, it lets you store a pair of sneakers on the wall. That’s right, the fixture doesn’t just spare you from using precious floor space to keep your shoes, it adds nothing unsightly to the walls when not in use, too, looking nothing more than a hook to hang a coat on and taking up just as little wall area.
In fact, you can probably use it to hang bags and coats, provided they don’t weigh any heavier than conventional trainers.
Designed to hold sneakers and similar footwear, the Staeckler uses integrated clips to clamp onto the shoe’s heel, holding it facing forward to show off your fancy kicks.
It can hold most any size of sneakers (any shoe with a heel, in fact), although they might not be compatible with some of the taller high-top designs. A set of two screws and two wall anchors are included for mounting it up the wall, with included adhesive pads as an alternative for folks who live in apartments (probably restrict it to lighter trainers in that case). It measures 95 x 20 x 72 mm (h x w x d) and comes in different colours to match any décor.
Until next week stay reloaded.
