FORMER Highlanders eccentric skipper Tapuwa Kapini is yet to be registered by his AmaZulu side in the Absa Premiership as he is still waiting for his South African permanent residence permit. Kapini recently applied to be a permanent South African resident. The 29-year-old joined Premier Soccer League side Platinum Stars (then Silver Stars) in 2006 from Highlanders and spent five years with the club before joining Usuthu at the start of the 2011/12 season.
“We’re still working on the paperwork, the application is in progress but we can’t really say how long it’s going to take,” the club’s public relations and communications manager, Philani Mabaso, told the AmaZulu website yesterday.
Kapini has been a regular starter and captain for Usuthu for the past two seasons but he was on the sidelines when Usuthu defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 in their league opener two weeks ago.
New signing Aubrey Mathibe was included in the starting lineup, with Philani Zikalala on the bench as his cover.
Meanwhile, former Caps United and Dynamos front man Simba Sithole has been deemed surplus to requirements by early season Absa
Premiership leaders SuperSport United after just eight months at the club.
Sithole’s removal from the Matsantsantsa books comes at a time when 2012 Castle Lager Premiership Golden Boot winner Nelson Maziwisa is said to have almost completed a move to the same club.
The former Warriors player previously also failed to make the grade at cash rich South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns before being offloaded and eventually joined local league champions Dynamos from where he packed his bags for SuperSport in January.
Sithole played just 288 minutes for SuperSport during the 2012/13 season, making just five appearances of which he was substituted in four games and played once as a substitute.
It was not immediately clear last night which club he was likely to join following his latest sacking.
