FREDDIE Mumiriki has been appointed Karoi Town Council acting town secretary.
Council chairperson, Abel Matsika, confirmed the appointment of Mumiriki with immediate effect.
“The bulk of our managers are on suspension pending court cases so we were left incapacitated and forced to make these appointments. These are measures to close the gaps and our parent Ministry is also aware of our precarious position,” he said.
Matsika said council will support Mumiriki as they have full confidence in his leadership abilities.
“He is a tried and tested leader who has Karoi at heart. His vision will contribute to the growth and development of our town,” Matsika said.
He said Precious Nharara has been appointed acting administrator.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe National Organisation and Residents Trust (ZNOART) provincial chairman, Liberty Chitiya, said it was high time substantive departmental heads are appointed.
“How can a council run with acting officials? The acting positions are responsible for non-service delivery because those acting can draw up long-term plans, as they don’t know when their acting will end.
“The continuous changes are causing a dearth of trust in council performance and this affects revenue collection and council viability,” said Chitiya.
