Karoi happy with progress

KAROI UNITED chairman, Kenson Kumponda, says he is impressed with the team’s perseverance that has seen them turning their fortunes around in the last half of the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.

Karoi were among the teams in the relegation zone in the first half of the season.

Their victory over Starbill saw them jump into sixth spot on the log standings.

“I can say there is unity for purpose by everyone, the players, executive, technical team and the council,” said Kumponda.

“We are trying although things are tough, we are working together, we have a goal to achieve. “We have said let’s deliver first and see what happens. Even our supporters are forthcoming, even for the mid-week games they are there to support the team. “When we came into the second half we were among the bottom three but we are at number six and we believe with God’s help we will finish among the top four if we win the remaining three games.”

Kumponda said they wanted promotion but things did not go according to expectations.

“At least we are happy we escaped relegation. We are preparing for next year and appealing for sponsorship. If we can get sponsorship, get transport and salaries for the players they can get motivated.

“We are planning for an award ceremony for our players to honour them. They have done well and some clubs have been monitoring some of these players but we would want to keep them for continuity’s sake,’ said Kumponda.

Karoi United travel to Harare for a date with ZRP Football Club.
