ZIMBABWE Rugby Union director of rugby Brighton Chivandire feels he needs to meet various stakeholders in the game before he gets down to the core business in his new job.
The former Young Sables coach yesterday told The Herald his first port of call would be meeting the local coaches.
“I want to have a chat with the coaches on how things have been going and how they would generally want to improve their skills so that we become an efficient rugby unit,” said Chivandire.
“We are trying to come to a consensus on how we want to play the game in the country, share information with the coaches.
“These are not binding or formal meetings but as a new man I have to make sure I meet up with all the stakeholders from players, coaches, officials, referees and administrators, among others, so that I get a full view of the situation as a whole.
“I am also looking forward to meeting with other sporting associations because I might learn one or two things from them, because rugby does not exist in isolation and interaction or engagement is always key.”
Before coming in as the ZRU director of rugby, the towering coach doubled up as the Sables manager and Under-20 technical advisor.
“Remember when I was a coach I could do away with just meeting those in the rugby circles but with my post now I have to also meet up with other associations who are not necessarily into rugby alone.” said Chivandire.
