Karoi Town Council’s Acting Town Secretary, Tongai Namisala, was arrested on Sunday.

Namisala is facing criminal abuse of office charges and is expected in court today (Monday).

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) arrested Namisala and housing director Admire Jimu in 2022, leading to

him losing his job.

He, however, went on to be reinstated last year after being cleared of the charges.

According to a press release issued yesterday by the town’s chairman, Alderman Kudakwashe Chigumo, the council resolved to

suspend Namisala with immediate effect.

“Also note that Engineer)William Chikwanda has been appointed Acting Town Secretary with immediate effect awaiting due

processes at our ordinary full council meeting,” he said.

The local authority has had at least six Acting Town Secretaries since 2018.

Some of the officials that acted in that position include Dr Wellington Mutikani who was then suspended in 2021, Mr Freddy

Mumiriki, Mr Precious Nharara and Mr Hastings Makunda.
