WARRIORS midfielder Ovidy Karuru is highly rated by Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs where he penned a three-year contract last week.
The former Gunners FC player spent some time in Europe playing in France and Belgium where he was with OH Leuven. With his vast experience in the beautiful game it seems he has got what it takes to please Amakhosi supporters.
Media liaison officer of Amakhosi, Vina Maphosa told Chronicle Sport: “We are delighted to sign the Zimbabwe senior national team player.”
Chiefs have been criticised by their fans for not buying strongly in the off-season but Maphosa said:
“I want to assure them that we have signed better players this season that are determined to see Amakhosi family dominating in the Absa Premiership.”
The Chiefs player is rated among the most gifted of his generation and is expected to play a prominent role in both Kaizer Chiefs and Warriors’ revival.
“We decided to sign him a on a three-year contract because he is young. At 25 he has many years to give us good fortunes,” he said.
Karuru was expected to form a deadly combination with his Warriors teammate Knowledge Musona who has however not signed for Chiefs because of an injury.
Chiefs have been home to several Zimbabweans with Ebson ‘Sugar’ Muguyo a celebrated legend who was named in the team’s best 40 players since 1970 when the club was formed.
At the moment they have Willard Katsande, Matthew Rusike and Kingstone Nkhatha. Zhaimu Jambo, Rabson Muchichwa, Liberty Masunda, Luke Jukulile-Petros, Robert Godoka, Tinashe Nengomasha, Thomas Sweswe and the late Cleopas Dlodlo have turned out for South Africa’s glamour club before.
Jambo was released recently after he failed to recover from an injury.
