DA Flow Sessions are held at a Bulawayo bar and they are a local hip hop platform that gives up-and-coming artistes a chance to be seen and rub shoulders with established artistes.
The day saw Cash Talk, Antivirus, Sean D, Kid Ego, Pheel Caveman, Mac and POY perform and keep the crowd on their feet the whole afternoon.
Kasi Lunatics performed tracks that included Baphi Abantwana, Tatopinda, Higher and their hit Masenza So.
In an interview before their performance Godfrey “Rap Poz” Mpofu, who is the founder and voice trainer of the group, said the mix tape was inspired by life in the ghetto.
He said issues like drug abuse and teenage pregnancies were part of the stories that are told in the mix tape.
“Drug abuse and teenage pregnancies are part of our lives in the ghetto and we wanted to highlight life through our eyes. It is a preparation for the album that we are working on and will be released next year,” said Rap Poz.
He said the mix tape took them five months to put together and the turnout at the event was overwhelming.
“We worked on this track for the past five months and when we came here to release this mix tape we were overwhelmed by the turnout of people supporting. These platforms help us to grow as musicians,” said Rap Poz.
He said Kasi Lunatics would like to work with Winky D, Roki, Sanii Makhalima and local musicians such as POY and Centre Party.
Rap Poz said their track Masenza So and Warriors were used as backing tracks in an upcoming local movie Inhlanhla.
Organiser of Da Flow Sessions Naboth “Rizla” Ramayi said Bulawayo musicians had proven that they could achieve a lot if given the equipment.
He said all that was needed was corporate support for local talent so that the industry would grow.
“Given the equipment, Bulawayo artistes can achieve a lot and we appeal to corporate sponsors to come on board and support local music. Kasi Lunatics have been coming to these sessions and their music has grown,” said Rizla.
He said he would like to see the sessions growing into a festival that would bring all groups together.
