STRIKER Kasimero Chimbadzwa has returned to Highlanders following a week of confusion in which his employers ZRP FC reneged on an earlier deal to release him to the Bulawayo giants.
Highlanders registered the Sizinda-born policeman for the 2016 season as part of their 29-man squad, after the two sides agreed on a transfer fee of $1,500, but the Harare-based ZRP FC later changed their mind and demanded a higher figure.
However, senior officers in the force intervened and ordered ZRP FC to stand by the agreed document instead of changing goalposts.
Highlanders’ chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede confirmed to Digital Television Media that Bosso had made a $500 commitment fee.
“Even the player himself had actually approached his superiors over the matter as he was keen to play for the Bulawayo giants,” said Gumede.
“The ZRP hierarchy decided to intervene in the matter of Kasimero and have said if there was an agreement, then the ZRP FC management ought to stand by that agreement. Accordingly we have sent $500 as commitment fee or down payment for the services of
Kasimero and we expect him to return to the Highlanders’ fold and ZRP FC to send his clearance letter,” said Gumede.
“The boy had gone back to Harare to try and sort out the matter himself and that alone shows how keen he was to join the club because he was going to take on his masters at ZRP FC to say how can he be denied such an opportunity. We are making sure that when Knox Mutizwa leaves us for good mid-season, we have a suitable replacement.”
The return of the heavily built Chimbadzwa will give coach Erol Akbay a wide selection of strikers, especially with the imminent departure of Mutizwa for South Africa.
Chimbadzwa could be in the line up when Bosso take on FC Platinum in their first home league match of the season against FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
