AFTER steadying the ship with a hard-fought draw against CAPS United, Herentals midfielder Ralph Kawondera has declared the team’s ambitions to end the season among the top four teams in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The Students halted a three-match losing streak across all competitions with a gritty 0-0 draw at Rufaro. Kawondera hailed the result as a critical foundation upon which to build their final charge.
“The point was a positive starting point, we needed a foundation to believe again,” said Kawondera.They are in seventh place with 42 points.
Herentals have six games to bridge the gap and achieve their ambition of improving on last season’s fifth-place finish.The mission is clear but the path is fraught with challenges.
Their immediate hurdle is a formidable away fixture against a high-flying Ngezi Platinum side.“This season has been decent. We have won some and lost some, but we are still within reach of our targets,” Kawondera said.
“The remaining matches are not easy. They will demand the best from us. We have to go pound-for-pound and win every aspect of the game to collect maximum points.”Central to Herentals’ ambitions is Kawondera himself. Deployed deep in midfield, he has been a standout performer, contributing four goals and five assists for this campaign.“Definitely, I want to add more goals to my name before the season ends,” he said.
“I have to continue helping the team in all aspects to ensure we get the best result possible for ourselves.”
