Kay refuses to recognise new MDC-T chairman

Party organising-secretary Mr Nelson Chamisa confirmed that Mr Denga was the party’s bona fide provincial chairperson.
Sources in MDC-T said yesterday that Mr Kay was being treated like a sacred cow by the party’s national leadership for unexplained reasons.
It is alleged that Mr Kay had set up a parallel executive that was disturbing the party’s operations in the province.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Kay said: “I have questions regarding the election process used.
“I have questions that I have raised with the party’s national leadership and I have left everything to them.
“I have not set up a parallel executive in the province and people who are saying that may have other agendas.”

Mr Kay is said to have charged that Mr Denga was not a legitimate leader because he hired hooligans from his Mbare constituency to disrupt the voting process.
To this end, Mr Kay is said to have established a parallel executive comprising some councillors in Marondera and a former provincial executive member.
The group is reportedly holding meetings in the province urging supporters not to recognise the Denga-led provincial executive.

Last week, Mr Chamisa said: “Kay is not in the province, so what is your problem? There is no problem in the province and in fact the MDC is one happy big family and problems we are hearing them from our partners next door,” he said.

This was after Mr Denga refused to take questions regarding the issue, referring questions to party spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora.
Squabbles in Mashonaland East Province had resulted in the province failing to elect a representative to the national council.

It is understood that the warring parties had forwarded names of their choice with the Denga-led faction backing the incumbent representative, Mr Masimba Ruzvidzo, while Mr Kay is supporting Mr Silas Gweshe who is the former provincial secretary for information and publicity.
MDC-T sources said a meeting had been set for July 28 to resolve the matter.
