FRESH from a solid performance at the 2025 Africa Amateur Championship in South Africa, Zimbabwe’s leading amateur golfer, Keegan Shutt, continued his rich vein of form as he won the Julius Robinson Golf Tournament, held at Wingate Park Golf Club in Harare over the weekend.
The in-form 18-year-old Shutt delivered an outstanding performance, finishing with a 10-under-par-206 score across three rounds to emerge as the champion, once again affirming his status as one of the country’s brightest prospects.
A total of 120 golfers participated in the tournament.
Shutt was six strokes ahead of second-placed Michael Wallace, who posted a four-under-par 212.
Starting the tournament with a level-par 72, Shutt quickly found his rhythm, posting a brilliant five-under-par 67 in the second round. In the final round, he once again displayed his skill and composure, carding another five-under-par 67 to seal his victory.
In the women’s event, 15-year-old Miriam Masiya emerged as the champion, scoring a total of 224. Her impressive victory saw her finish 15 shots ahead of second-placed Tracy Humbira, who ended on a 239 gross.
In the team event, Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club took the top spot, while Royal Harare Golf Club finished in second place.
Meanwhile, professional golfer Kieran Vincent delivered a commendable performance at the 2025 Investec South African Open Championship, finishing tied for 25th place in a highly competitive field.
Vincent posted a seven-under-par 209 total at Durban Country Club.
The DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned event, however, was shortened to 54 holes due to a waterlogged course caused by heavy rains.
A cut was made after the second round and the other two Zimbabwean participants in the championship, Benjamin Follet-Smith and Robson Chinhoi, unfortunately failed to make it through.
In the first round, Vincent recorded a two-under-par 70, with five birdies on the par-four holes 6, 7, 13 and 18, as well as the par-five 8th hole. He bogeyed the par-four 11th and suffered a double bogey on the par-four 17th.
Vincent followed up his solid opening round with an excellent six-under-par 66 in the second round, including eight birdies and two bogeys. In the final round, the talented Zimbabwean professional carded a one-over-par 73, with three birdies and four bogeys, concluding his tournament showing.
This marked Vincent’s third tournament on the 2024/25 Sunshine Tour and after the championship, he is ranked 113th on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, with 113.55 points.
Stuart Krog remains the highest-placed Zimbabwean on the Order of Merit in 66th position, with 301.51 points from 22 tournaments. Chinhoi sits in 76th with 240.60 points from 23 tournaments, while Follet-Smith is ranked 77th with 230.52 points.
Visitor Mapwanya is in 167th place with 28.32 points from one tournament, followed by Promise Sombreiro, who has 28.08 points from eight tournaments.
Mohammad Rauf Mandhu is in 183rd position with 14.88 points from eight tournaments, and Pride Sembo is tied for 186th, with 13.44 points from 11 tournaments.
The 2025 Investec South African Open Championship was ultimately won by South Africa’s Dylan Naidoo, who triumphed in a play-off against England’s Laurie Canter.
The co-sanctioned DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour event was the penultimate stop on the International Swing of the 2025 Race to Dubai, with the Joburg Open scheduled to begin on Thursday. –— @brandon_malvin
