as much as possible to look at a number of programmes so that at least I know what’s happening on the small screen.
It hasn’t been easy though because there are over 70 channels for those that are Dstv’s premium bouquet including ZBCTV. I am told there is a Zambian free-to-air satellite channel called Movie TV which has become popular again.
I am still to watch the channel because the vibe that I am getting from those who watch channel is big.
So in my next installment I intend to let you know what’s happening on the station and all the excitement about that.
In view of the new radio and television stations that are coming I think viewers will be spoilt for choice.
Mzansi Magic has a variety of exciting programmes and quite honestly programming isn’t that difficult for as long as authorities are imaginative and creative.
One of the few programmes that airs on the channel available on DStv is called My Top 10 hosted by KAYA FM’s Dj Thabs. Other than being a musical show, viewers get to see interviews of South African musicians.
And last week the programme featured one of the celebrated musicians Steve Kekana.
Like Kekana said, it was quite revealing as he shed light on his life and the music which were spiced up by music. I was happy to note that one of Kekana’s favourite musicians is Luther Vandros.
I know a good number of music lovers enjoy the late Luther’s music. Born in 1958 in Limpopo, Kekana lost his sight when he was five years old, and attended a school for the blind in Pietersburg, now called Polokwane. During the school years, he nurtured his love for singing, and became a member of amateur groups in his teens. In that interview he also revealed that he was the one who taught the legendary Brenda Fassie to sing, but said Yvonne ran away because he was strict.
Asked how he became a “ladies’ man” Kekana said he could tell a beautiful woman from just the sound of her voice which meant he was a good listener.
Viewers also learnt that Kekana did the classic song “Burn Out” together with Sipho Hotstix Mabuse. Most people thought it was Hotstix’s own composition. There were other issues that made the interview all the more exciting.
Below are some of the highlights of what’s to come on your television:
