THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League reaches a pivotal stage today as coaches, captains and journalists convene online to select the 2025 Soccer Stars of the Year. Their choices will determine the final XI, a tradition that continues to hold prestige in the local game.
The panel will finalise the calendar today, while the major individual honours — Soccer Star of the Year, two runners-up, Coach of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year and Most Promising Player Under 20 — will remain under wraps until the awards banquet in Harare on December 5.
This year’s list is expected to ignite debate, with many players delivering standout performances in a campaign that concluded on Sunday. Last year’s winner, Walter Musona, is unlikely to return, paving the way for a fresh crop of contenders.
Scottland defender Kelvin Moyo, who featured in every minute for the champions and anchored their backline with calm authority, leads the early favourites. His central defensive partner, Peter Muduhwa, is also in contention.
TelOne striker Washington Navaya, the league’s top scorer with 17 goals, has a strong claim for the main crown.
Scottland’s Tymon Machope, MWOS forward Billy Veremu and Simba Bhora midfielder Emmanuel Ziocha complete a competitive field.
The Simba Bhora duo of Isheanesu Mauchi and Webster Tafa are also expected to be in the conversation. Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai and Highlanders defender Andrew Mbeba, have done enough to remain on the radar. In the race for Goalkeeper of the Year, Simba Bhora’s William Thole looks set for the golden glove after keeping 17 clean sheets.
