Kelvin Pangiso wins Old Mutual race

Pangiso, of the Zimbabwe Prison Services, came home first, clocking 50:07 mins ahead of Elmore Sibanda of Ziscosteel who settled for second place in a time of 50:27.

Another Zimbabwe Prison Services athlete Jonathan Chinyoka came third in 50:36.
For winning the men’s Open race, Pangiso went home US$1 000 richer with Sibanda collecting US$500 while Chinyoka received US$250.

Pangiso was delighted at winning the race and he conceded that it was a tough event.
“Elmore Sibanda, my colleague Chinyoka, Lewis Masunda and Gilbert Mutandiro gave me a tough challenge,” Pangiso said.
He paid tribute to the sponsors Old Mutual for organising such an event.

Rutendo Nyahore, an independent athlete, came home first in the Open women category, clocking 58:50.
In second place was Sharon Tavengwa, another independent athlete, who clocked 59:45 and Constance Nyasango of Kuwadzana Club settled for third place, clocking 1:00:17.

For winning the women’s race, Nyahore went home smiling with US$1 000 while Tavengwa collected US$500 and Nyasango US$250.
“All the top female long-distance runners like Samkeliso Moyo, Muchaneta Gwata, Faith Kamangira, Tavengwa and Nyasango were present and beating them was quite an achievement for me,” Nyahore said.

In the disabled athletes category, Elford Moyo romped home first, clocking 47:33, with Edmund Makutya coming second in a time of 51:08 and Samson Murowa came third in 51:42.
