suicide bombing at the Garissa primary grounds blast will be arraigned in court today.
“The suspect was arrested on Saturday and we believe he has key information regarding the incident on February 17 where a suicide bomber was killed,” Mureithi said.
The regional police commander said the suspect is being interrogated by police officers from the anti-terrorism unit.
He said they suspect the man was behind the series of grenade and gun attacks that have occurred in the town in the recent past.
During the February 17 incident, the improvised explosive device went off at the local Garissa Primary School grounds at the dais where official functions are held, killing the planter.
The explosion jolted the nearby buildings causing an intense tension and a state of confusion in the town prompting a commotion.
The body parts of the unidentified man of Somali origin were scattered all over due to the impact of the blast.
The regional police commander said that the death toll in the bomb blast has risen to three people following forensic analysis of the body parts gathered.
“The three legs we have are all left, this means that these were three individuals,” Mureithi said.
The police have also recovered three pistols, one which they say was snatched from a police officer who was killed late last year at the Garissa market.
Unconfirmed reports have it that the accomplices of those who died while planting the device and who escaped with serious injuries are being treated at a secret location.
Security in the north-eastern region has been at its lowest since Kenya took its troops to Somalia to fight the Al-Shabaab remnants. Garissa has been the worst hit the attacks that have been targeting police officers and civilians.
An improvised explosive device is common in the northern Kenya after two people were also killed late last year when the device they were planting on a roadside targeting security officer accidentally went off in Dadaab killing them instantly.
The incident comes barely three weeks after a renowned businessman was killed at a point-blank range and his colleague severely wounded after unknown assailants sprayed bullets on their car. – Xinhua.
