Kereke responds to Gono lawsuit

the information would enable him to adequately defend himself.
Dr Kereke filed the application for further particulars at the High Court on September 11.
Dr Gono wants Dr Kereke to pay him US$10 million for alleged defamatory statements made in February. He wants an additional US$15 million for other alleged defamatory statements made in May.
However, Dr Kereke in his request for further particulars said Dr Gono should first divulge how he allegedly borrowed millions of dollars from banks that later collapsed.
“It is being alleged that the plaintiff borrowed in excess of US$35 million from banks he is supposed to supervise and secured those loans with assets bought using RBZ funds,” said Dr Kereke.
“Please provide a full list of assets that were being pledged as collateral by the plaintiff in the borrowings he did personally and those by New Donnington Farm, Rimai Tidye and Lunar Chickens all of which are operations the plaintiff has direct control and interests of.”
Dr Kereke asked Dr Gono to provide proof that he caused publication of a letter on websites, which he allegedly wrote about Dr Gono’s dealings at the bank. He wants Dr Gono to reveal how much he got from the RBZ for construction of his “multi-million dollar” residence in Borrowdale. Dr Kereke wants Dr Gono to respond to allegations that Deloitte and Touche auditors discovered US$3,5million in his office, which belonged to the bank.
“The plaintiff submitted to auditors that such money was being set aside and kept in his office to allegedly “pay packages” for Reserve Bank management on retirement,” he said.
Dr Kereke wants Dr Gono to confirm if he is aware of 15kg of gold that was allegedly stolen from the RBZ and a report was made at Borrowdale Police Station.
He said some of the country’s gold was sold to a private jewellery company in Saudi Arabia at a discount of 34 percent.
“If the plaintiff is aware, what reasons are there for the private company in Saudi Arabia to have been taking Zimbabwe’s gold from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe under the watch of plaintiff at a 34 percent discount when in fact gold is as good as cash?” said Dr Kereke.
He also wants Dr Gono to provide a full list of total Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed shares which the RBZ bought between December 2003 and December 2009.
“Provide details of how much those shares were sold. How much was raised and who received the money,” he said.
Dr Kereke also wants Dr Gono to provide information on money allegedly sent to Premier Bank from the RBZ. He also wants more details on alleged diamond mining in the Midlands by the RBZ, the vehicles bought by the RBZ, a full list of equipment bought under the farm mechanisation programme and how commodities bought under Baccossi were handled. Dr Gono was yet to file his response to the request by yesterday.
