Kereke urges Zanu-PF to shun factionalism

Addressing war veterans and senior Zanu-PF leaders together with thousands of party supporters at Gwindingwi High School in the district on Sunday, Dr Kereke urged the people of Bikita to unite ahead of next year’s elections to hand MDC-T a crushing blow.

Dr Kereke, who openly revealed his interest to represent Zanu-PF in the Bikita senatorial seat that is in the hands of MDC-T’s Dr Kokerai Rugara, appealed to people in the district to shun in-fighting and work as a team.

He said winning seats in the district would be a way of paying back President Mugabe for giving the majority of Zimbabweans land and also embarking on the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme.

“I want to appeal to all the people of Bikita to shun factionalism and stop infighting because now is the time for us to unite in Zanu-PF and unite for one cause to make sure the revolutionary party wins a landslide victory next year,” he said.

“We want to give our President a big thank you for giving us land and also empowering the previously marginalised Zimbabweans through the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme.

“Zanu-PF should reclaim its political dominance in Bikita. We must unite and work as a team to reclaim the four seats that were won by the MDC-T in the last elections, reclaiming those seats should be our top priority come what may.”
All the three parliamentary seats in Bikita and the senatorial seat were won by the MDC-T in the 2008 elections.

Dr Kereke said the MDC-T’s defeat should start in the district. He handed over 30 tonnes of maize to seven chiefs from Bikita district for distribution to war veterans and hunger-stricken villagers.
Dr Kereke said the maize from his Pamene Farm which he got under the land redistribution programme was a clear illustration that President Mugabe was a visionary leader who wanted wholesale empowerment of blacks in the country.

He urged those charged with distributing the maize to make sure that it gets to the targeted beneficiaries.

Dr Kereke also donated US$7 000 to the Bikita district war veterans’ leadership for sprucing up Bikita District Heroes Acre and also building a pre-cast wall around the district shrine which was in a state of disrepair owing to years of neglect.

The people of Bikita also had a chance to receive free specialist medical treatment as Dr Kereke brought several doctors and nurses who offered villagers free treatment at Gwindingwi High school.
