Kezi Clinic mortuary gets compressor

A group of Zimbabweans based in South Africa  on Friday donated a compressor to Kezi Clinic mortuary in Matabeleland South as part of uplifting the community.

The gesture was part of efforts to alleviate the plight of people in Kezi who used to rely on a mortuary at Maphisa District Hospital, which is 17 kilometres away. In an interview, one of the founders of the group named Kezi Uplifting Forum of Diasporans from South Africa Mr Mongameli Ndlovu said the objective of the grouping was to identify and support projects to help the community.

Kezi Clinic nurse-in-charge Mr Mthokozisi Moyo said the gesture came at a time when villagers were finding it difficult to meet costs of using the mortuary at Maphisa District Hospital.

“The mortuary has not been functioning for about 10 years and this has been affecting villagers badly because they relied on Maphisa District Hospital mortuary that is about 17 kilometres from here and some families were forced to pay for the costs with livestock,” he said.

Ward 14 councillor, Sinikiwe Moyo expressed gratitude on behalf of villagers and encouraged more people based outside the country to plough back into their communities.

“I hope other parents present here will also encourage their children to be part of this group that is now doing well in Kezi because slowly but surely they are developing our community,” she said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Matobo North MP Cde Edgar Moyo said he was happy that locals have realised the need to be part of the development agenda in the area.
