Khaya Moyo calls for integration of liberation movements

Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has called for integration of former liberation movementsin the Sadc region to fend off attempts by the West to install puppet regimes.

Cde Khaya Moyo said this after receiving Ambassadors Enrique Prieto (Cuba) and Dr PanduleniKaino Shingenge (Namibia) at the party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday.

“What we want is that the former liberation movements must meet often. That is why we are working to have a summit of liberation movements so that we can thwart efforts by the West to impose puppets on us. Let us strengthen the solidarity of liberation movements,” he said.

Liberation movements in the region, ZanuPF, ANC (South Africa), Chama Cha Mapinduzi (Tanzania), Swapo (Namibia), Frelimo (Mozambique), MPLA (Angola) and Unip (Zambia), all have good relations.

Cde Khaya Moyo thanked Namibia for its continued solidarity with Zimbabwe.

“Our relations with Namibia are not just relations, we are like twins. Your former leader, Dr Sam Nujoma, has always been our father as well,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo briefed Ambassador Shingenge on recent skirmishes that took place in some parts of Harare.

“This was stagemanaged. It was a strategy to ensure that the EU extends illegal sanctions whenever they meet. It has now become a tradition that whenever there is an EU, AU or even UN meeting we have these problems to ensure that the spotlight is on the country,” he said.

Ambassador Shingenge thanked Zimbabwe for its assistance, especially in manpower development.

“We have to ensure that we implement all agreements we have signed,” he said.

Havana has sent thousands of doctors and teachers to Zimbabwe and assisted in establishing the Bindura University of Science Education.

Cuba’s Ambassador Prieto said it was important for the two countries to strengthen ties. “We all share the same objectives of independence and sovereignty and noninterference in the affairs of another,” he said. He thanked Zimbabwe for its support of Cuba against the over 50year long US economic blockade.
