interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
The ICG delegation led by its vice president Mr Jon Greenwald and senior analyst for Southern Africa Mr Trevor Maisiri paid a courtesy call on Cde Khaya Moyo yesterday.
Zimbabwe, said Cde Khaya Moyo, did not want sponsored non-governmental organisations, which seek to influence an illegal regime change.
“The ICG you have been very unfair to us for a very long time and it is not a secret that you support the MDC, they even say it themselves,” he said.
“You even solicit support for them. Please leave us alone, we are a sovereign state. We lost so many of our cadres to liberate this country. We don’t want anyone from outside to dictate to us what needs to be done.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said Zimbabweans could solve their own problems and consult Sadc or the African Union if they failed to find a common ground.
He said Zimbabwe would not accept any prescription that comes from outside Sadc or the AU.
Mr Greenwald said his organisation does not support political parties in any country.
“We are not a human rights group. We are only here to resolve conflicts and whatever the MDC said about us supporting or giving them money is not true.
“We are not pro-Zanu-PF or MDC. Our interest is simply to look at a situation where there is a crisis and give recommendations on how to get out of the challenges,” he said.
Mr Greenwald asked Cde Khaya Moyo why Zanu-PF wanted elections when other parties had a number of concerns about holding the polls.
He said there were impressions that the environment was not yet conducive for elections.
Cde Khaya Moyo said: “Should we ask for permission to hold elections from you? We shall move ahead with our elections whether there are impressions or not and to us those will remain impressions and never the reality.”
The Zanu-PF national chairman also said the MDC formations in the inclusive government had reneged on calling for the removal of sanctions as outlined in the Global Political Agreement.
He said Zanu-PF had decided to move on whether sanctions were in place or not. Cde Khaya Moyo said the elections were the only solution to ending the discord in the inclusive government.
He said whichever party was going to win the elections was supposed to pursue the economic and empowerment drive because it was legally binding. Cde Khaya Moyo said the programme was being implemented legally through an Act of Parliament.
