MEMBERS of the Khumalo clan who are in Bulawayo for this year’s Mzilikazi Day commemorations have paid a visit to Highlanders Football Club, taking time to tour the club house, offices and Barbourfields Stadium.
The visit brought together two institutions deeply connected to the history and identity of Bulawayo, with the Khumalo clan using the occasion to appreciate the cultural and sporting heritage associated with the city.
The delegation toured Highlanders’ club house and offices before proceeding to Barbourfields Stadium, the iconic home of the Bulawayo giants.
The visit comes as Bulawayo hosts the annual Mzilikazi Day commemorations, which celebrate the legacy of King Mzilikazi and the Ndebele nation.
Highlanders, which is marking its centenary this year, was founded by descendants of King Mzilikazi’s followers and has over the years become an important symbol of the city’s history and identity.
The Khumalo clan’s visit therefore provided a fitting intersection of culture, history and football as the city continues with the Mzilikazi Day celebrations.
