The current contracts of the two players with “Amakhosi” will expire in June, 2012 and at the moment speculation is rife that Khune is on the wanted list of Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the players’ business manager Jazzman Mahlakgane has cleared the air over the future of the duo with the Phefeni Glamour Boys.
“We started talking to Chiefs yesterday,” Mahlakgane confirmed.
“If I may, let me say we are at the initial phase of negotiations. All is good and there is nothing to worry about,” he said.
Mahlakgane also dispelled the rumour linking Khune with a move to Sundowns, saying for now both Khune and Tshabalala are committed to talking to only one club — Chiefs.
“You know how it is in football; I can’t stop people saying what they want to say to the public, but what I can tell you is that we are talking to Chiefs,” Mahlakgane added.
Meanwhile Ajax Cape Town coach Maarten Stekelenburg said he has no specific plans for Benni McCarthy, but admits his side will need to keep the striker quiet if they are to beat Orlando Pirates.
The Urban Warriors travel to Orlando Stadium today to take on the defending PSL champions, who have relied heavily on former Bafana Bafana hitman McCarthy for their goals this season.
Stekelenburg, whose side are level on points with Pirates, believes preventing the supply to the 34-year-old forward can prove just as effective as gagging the Bucs man himself.
“We are not focusing especially on Benni McCarthy,” Stekelenburg told the Sunday Tribune. “But we will obviously have to make sure we keep him quiet.
“Of course he has got one great quality and that is scoring goals. Where other teams create their chances and miss them, Benni will not miss chances.
“When he has a scoring opportunity, he will score it for sure.
“But that is something we are aware of and you must try and cut off the supply for him to get the ball in the box”.—Kickoff.
