A BULAWAYO man from Old Lobengula suburb was allegedly murdered and his body hanged from the roof trusses to appear as if he committed suicide.

The deceased only identified as Farai was found in a locked room on Tuesday at about 10AM.

Both his feet were touching the floor and a dirty rug was stuffed in his mouth.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said clues at the scene indicate that Farai could have been murdered and his body hanged by his killers.

“We are investigating a suspected murder case involving a male adult named Farai whose last name and age has not been ascertained.

“He was discovered by his friend who visited his place of residence looking for him on Tuesday at 9.55AM. The friend knocked at his door and got no response. He called him on his cellphone and heard it ringing from inside. This led to his friend calling other people and they forced open the locked door and discovered the now deceased hanging from the roof trusses,” said Insp Ncube.

He said members of the public reported the matter to police who attended to the scene.

Insp Ncube said detectives made preliminary conclusions that the victim could have been killed.

“The victim was found hanging using a black electric cable which was tied to the roof trusses, his hands were  tied with a piece of wire, a dirty greenish dish towel was stuffed in his mouth and secured with an elastic band. His legs were tied to a metal spring bed with both feet touching the ground,” said Insp Ncube.

He said the body has since been taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post mortem.

Insp Ncube said police were appealing to members of the public who might have information regarding the case to contact any nearest police station. —@nqotshili
