SONGBIRD Kimberly “Kim” Makumbe has vowed to inspire and empower youths through the power of her music.
In an interview with H-Metro, the 24-year-old said she wanted to make a difference to the lives of many people.
“Being a girl child, I understand it takes a woman to inspire another and to prove that, as a woman, it is okay to dream big and pursue greatness. “I have been inspired, and I hope to inspire others as my growth continues.
“The most important thing a woman should have is a strong sense of self-worth, that is our superpower. “Music is more than just a form of art.” Kim reckons she chose a good medium to share her message.
“Music is a platform powerful enough to break barriers of gender, borders, language, culture, beliefs, backgrounds, status, and it speaks to the soul.
“We all saw it during the pandemic, no matter how frightening our new reality was at that time, music brought the world together in a way that physical interaction could never accomplish.
“A journey with my music is a journey to self-discovery and self-love.
“Once one realises who they are, and how to love, they become unstoppable and in turn become a better person to society.
“No better way to communicate this to the widest audience possible than through music.”
She urged young people to stay away from drugs. “I would like to encourage other youths and the girl child to desist from drugs.
“Drug abuse has destroyed my generation and it is sad because if it is projected that Africa will have the largest population of young people in the world by 2050, it means we are short-changing ourselves of the opportunities that come with such statistics if we do not fight against drugs as a nation.
“It is a battle that needs to be fought from a family unit level, checking on our sons and daughters, empowering the youth, and encouraging healthy conversations and relationships to curb mental health issues.
“This will have a ripple effect on the rest of our community. “The fight is great, but we can win, and we will.”
She talked about her next project.
“This month, I am going to release a trap jiti love song titled ‘Must Be Love’.
“The song is about the initial stages of a relationship, popularly known as the honeymoon phase. “Trap Jiti is a brand new genre and the goal is to export the beauty of our indigenous music fused with a modern sound.”
