Kimble Rogers, an iconic name in Zimbabwe’s music scene, has been captivating audiences for an impressive three decades.

As he gears up for the 90s Lifestyle gig at The Place in Bulawayo this Friday, Chronicle Showbiz had the chance to chat with him about his enduring career, from his early days in Bulawayo’s clubs to his national radio fame.

Kimble Rogers’ DJ career started in the 1990s, spinning vinyl records at local clubs in Bulawayo. Reflecting on his humble beginnings, he says, “I started with vinyl, learning the art of mixing and blending. The energy from the crowd and the thrill of keeping them dancing was addictive.”

His talent quickly gained recognition, making him a household name in the country. Known for his ability to read the crowd, his sets blend Soul, R&B, Rap, Afro-pop, house and kwaito, attracting fans from all walks of life.

“It’s about creating a connection through music,” he says, “and that’s what I’ve always aimed for.”

Rogers’ move to radio was a seamless transition. With his charismatic voice and infectious laugh, he quickly became a favourite on the airwaves.

“Radio gave me the opportunity to reach a wider audience. Sharing my passion for music with the nation has been one of the highlights of my career,” he reflects.

While his radio presence soared, the club scene remained at the heart of Rogers’ craft. Fans, especially women, flock to his performances, with long-time fan Nomsa Moyo saying, “Kimble has that magic touch. He knows exactly what to play to get everyone moving.”

For Rogers, Bulawayo’s vibrant club culture is his spiritual home. “There’s an energy here that’s unmatched,” he confides.

“The people, the vibe – Bulawayo will always be where I feel most alive.”

Over the years, Rogers has built a fan base that spans generations. One Tafadzwa, a 50-year-old fan, reflects, “We’ve grown up with Kimble’s music. He’s more than just a DJ – he’s a legend.”

As the DJ marks 30 years in the industry, Rogers is far from slowing down.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received over the years,” he says. “As long as people keep dancing, I’ll keep spinning.”

Kimble Rogers’ enduring presence on the decks and the airwaves proves that some legends truly never fade – they only grow stronger with time.
