King Dougie unites Chimbetus

Relations between musicians from the Chimbetu family have often been turbulent.
Despite working together on some projects, the singers periodically trade accusations on issues regarding their careers and personalities.
The conflicts are common between cousins Suluman and Tryson who have clashed many times because of songs inherited from their fathers and band members that used to “see-saw” between their outfits.

On the other hand Allan and his son, Douglas, have developed an on-and-off working relationship due to personal and professional reasons.
Currently the four musicians are all working separately and their anticipated reunion for Simon Chimbetu commemorations last month was impossible as they concentrated on individual projects.

Suluman honoured his father with a commemorative show at Dandaro Inn where the other Chimbetus were conspicuous by their absence.
Now, the Chimbetus, who last shared the stage at Dr Nero commemorations in April, will unite to support the youngest musician of their clan, Douglas.

King Dougy, as the young musician is affectionately known, will launch his second album “Southern Letter” tomorrow at Mbare Netball Complex and Allan, Suluman and Tryson have confirmed participation. They will come together to celebrate their youngster’s “new baby” and offer congratulatory messages in a marvellous sign of unity.

They have all confirmed their participation at the launch of the six-track album.
Allan said he would be performing alongside other musicians celebrating the success of his son.

“Although I will not bring the full band, I will be there in my personal capacity and perform with the others. I will congratulate him for the new album,” he said.
Tryson said he would bring a full band to perform before he leaves for another show in Budiriro where he will be sharing the stage with Peter Moyo.

“We will just perform two songs before we go for our show. We need to support each other because we are a family. We have to celebrate each other’s success,” he said.
Sulu said he will be attending in his personal capacity.

“To me this is a family event and we can perform with a single band so I will be there in my personal capacity,” he said.
King Dougie said he is humbled by the support his family members have pledged.

“I am the youngest in the line of male musicians from our family and I am happy that my father and cousins have promised to grace the album launch. It is good to be launching a second album at such a platform and I hope the album will do well,” he said.

Some of the tracks that will feature on the album are “Samson,” “Mwoyo Wangu”, “Tsamba” and “Samusha”.
Other artists that will also perform at the launch are Tocky Vibez, Killer T, Bev and Kinnah.
