KING GEORGE VI is today celebrating 68 years of existence with a march starting from City Hall to its Centre in Khumalo suburb.
The march is led by an army band.
King George VI is a learning institution that provides comprehensive support for persons living with disabilities. The Centre offers a range of services, including educational support, rehabilitation services to promote physical and emotional well-being, and sign language training for the deaf.
The march aims to raise awareness of the services provided by the organisation, which has been serving the community for years.
The Centre’s Projects and Advocacy Officer, Ms Precious Ncube, said the event is an opportunity to remind people of the organisation’s presence and the role it plays in promoting inclusivity.
“We’ve been here for years and it’s good to remind people that we are still here,” she said.
Children from King George VI and other schools, including Falcon College and Christian Brothers College (CBC), amongst others, are participating in support of the worthy cause.
The celebrations, themed “68 Years of Ability”, highlight the organisation’s commitment to promoting disability awareness and inclusion.
It also aims to demonstrate the ability and potential of children living with disabilities.
