REGGAE and dancehall artiste King Labash is proving that strategic networking, perseverance, and consistency can open doors on the global stage as he continues to grow his fan base across Europe.
Born Lloyd Charles Muponda, the “Kukonzeresa” hit-maker, who rose from humble beginnings, has become a household name in his adopted home of Belgium.
His remarkable journey demonstrates that talent, hard work, and unwavering focus can propel Zimbabwean artistes onto the international stage.
Last weekend, King Labash made history as the first Zimbabwean musician to perform at the prestigious Reggae Geel Festival in Belgium, where he received a rapturous reception from thousands of reggae enthusiasts.
“The festival was held in Geel, Belgium. Reggae Geel is one of Europe’s oldest and most respected reggae festivals, attracting reggae lovers from Belgium and many other countries every year,” Labash told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub.
“It was an honour to perform on such an iconic stage with such a rich history in reggae music. “It is a proud and humbling moment. Representing Zimbabwe on such a prestigious international stage means a lot to me because I know I’m not only performing as King Labash, but I am also representing my country, my culture and Zimbabwean music.”
The reggae crooner said the milestone has inspired him to continue serving as a proud ambassador of Zimbabwean music and culture wherever he performs.
“If indeed I am the first Zimbabwean artiste to perform at Reggae Geel, I hope this achievement opens doors for many more Zimbabwean musicians to be recognised internationally.
“I believe Africa has incredible talent, and we deserve to be seen and heard on the world’s biggest stages.” Reflecting on how he has settled in Belgium, Labash said:
