SELF-PROCLAIMED king of sungura Alick Macheso will this weekend meet his legion of Mutare fans at popular entertainment joint Pick and Save Supperrette and present some of his new songs to feature on his forthcoming album.

William “Yellow” Tsandukwa, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager, in an interview exclusively revealed that Macheso was this week preparing on recording his new album expected to be out before end of year.

“I talked to him over the phone after his trip from Botswana, saying he was preparing to record his new project this week. Otherwise I am happy with the morale in the camp. Everyone is fit and we are ready to come to Mutare. Our fans in Mutare make us feel special. Our band is intact and we are looking forward to staging a historic show,” said Tsandukwa.

Macheso last released Kwatabva Mitunhu two years ago. Chartbuster drawn from the album Macharangwanda stands as one of his fans’ all-time favourite hits. Kwatakabva Mitunhu has six tracks, namely Zvipo, Chirimuropa, Huyai Samasimba, Macharangwanda, Kutsvaga Chiremba and Cynthia.

Besides producing quality music, Macheso, otherwise known as Extrabasso because of his bass guitar-strumming prowess, is also a great performer.

His energy, verve and strength on stage make him one.

The star-studded band comprises Zhili Mumbamulapi (chanter), Donald Gogo and Devine “Wezhira” Muzenda (lead guitar), Tafirenyika “Fire” Nyamunda (rhythm guitar), Jethro Walewa (sub rhythm), Charles Chembe (bass guitar) and Wilson Meka (vocalist).

His lyrical expertise and flawless performances are admired by many. He is expected to belt out songs that made him a household name like Mundikumbuke, Shedia, Sarah, Kushungurudzwa, Kumuzi Kwatu and the crowd favourite, Tafadzwa Nyarara off the album Zvinoda Kutendwa.

And tomorrow, the talent-laced Orchestra Mberikwazvo team will have to set their tools right to gratify hundreds of revellers expected to throng the joint.

His exciting antics and verve on stage are what makes him a darling of many and no doubt tomorrow, Pick and Save patrons will have blissful night.

Show organisers confirmed the show which starts at 8pm.

“We are glad to bring back Macheso by public demand. He is a great performer whose music unifies people. People should come in their numbers and have fun,” said the organisers.
