HARARE-BASED dancehall musician King Shaddy has released a single titled, Vakandibata Bani, which describe the ordeal he went through on the night he was attacked.Born Shadreck Kwarire, Shaddy is one of the country’s talented singers. He sings about both true and fictional events.
His latest song Vakandibata Bani narrates events on Saturday, 20 July, when he was attacked. The voice of a man crying for his stolen cow hooves (amangqina) is heard in the song. It is the only thing that the thieves managed to grab from him. His creativeness brings out the funny side of this rather sad encounter.
Fortunately the man is alive today and he thanks God for shielding him and saving his life from those who wanted to harm him.
“I thank the Lord so much, no one knows maybe they could have killed me but the Man above had other plans,” said Shaddy.
King Shaddy who has released a number of songs, rose to prominence with tracks such as, Mai Huni, Machira Chete and Song for Mama. He is one of the biggest dancehall artistes in the country along side Winky Dee.
Shaddy who has popularised the chant Makorokoza, was attacked two weeks ago at Machipisa where he had gone to buy cow hooves. Luckily for him one of the thieves recognised him, which led to them apologising and running away from the scene.
“I craved for mazondo on the day and my nephew Junior King and I, went to buy some at Machipisa. I was attacked on my way back to my car.
“Fortunately one of the guys recognised me and alerted others who ran once they realised their mistake, but they had already worked on me. They later apologised,” he said.
The Song for Mama is a special dedication to his mother, whom he lost years ago. Shaddy also known as Mr Magoo said he was recovering well.
“Makorokoza should expect a lot from me. I will keep entertaining my fans locally and regionally. I am busy with a number of projects which will be released this year,” he said.
