IT’S certainly going to be a perfect weekend with loads of entertainment for music fans in Bulawayo. There are a number of acts that are set to be in the city with Alick “Zora Butter” Macheso and Sulumani “Batai Munhu” Chimbetu coming to town.The weekend kicks off with Macheso’s show at Amphitheatre today, courtesy of Maridadi Entertainment.
The show kicks off at 8pm.
Maridadi Entertainment spokesperson, Tafadzwa Maridadi, said fans should come in numbers and should expect as great show since Macheso has added new members.
“We all know that band members left him but he has formed another formidable band. Fans should come and see for themselves,” he said.
Macheso will be bringing a new look band to Bulawayo after he was deserted by his lieutenants’ who formed their own band, Extra KwaZvose.
He has brought in Lovemore Chekumanyara and Watson Gumunya who will be on the drums, filling in for Obert Gomba. The two rotate their duties though it is believed Chekumanyara has won the position as he is proving to be a talented drummer. Also the band has a new chanter, who took over the works left by Jonasi Kasamba.
William Tsandutswa said Baba Sharoe as Macheso is affectionately called by his fans is ready for the show and is free from the niggling leg injury that had affected his performances.
“He is ready for the show. That leg injury that has been dogging him is now a thing of the past. Even I and Donald Gogo no longer have plasters. We are all ready, we want to show fans that the band is still alive. Bulawayo fans should come see this new look Mberikwazvo band,” he said.
Entertainment will spill into the next day when Sulumani Chimbetu will bring the Simon Chimbetu commemoration show to Club Vegas 999. The show is part of the celebrations that will be held through the month of August as the Dendera Kings celebrate the life and works of their founder, Simon Chopper Chimbetu.
Dendera Kings’ operations manager Pliers Puraene said, they are coming to celebrate and the people of Bulawayo should brace themselves for a celebratory night.
“We want to celebrate Simon’s life and we are already in celebratory mood. Tomorrow (today) we will be celebrating in Beitbridge and we will take the mood to Bulawayo. Fans should come, celebrate and enjoy with us,” he said.
Sulu on his part said these shows meant a lot to the whole band and they are going to give their best in honour of his father and their mentor.
