CONSISTENT chanter, King Shaddy, is set to end his musical hibernation and announce his return into the Zim-dancehall limelight with the release of his latest offering, Gosongo. With the production side already done, the freshly studio-baked album is set to hit the market any time soon, with the dreadlocked musician saying he has already distributed his new release to multiple radio stations.Gosongo, which effectively ends his three-year recording hiatus, becomes the Song For Mama singer’s fifth to his name, after Chipanera (2006), Letter To Mai Huni (2008), Jack Bauer (2010) and Merciless (2013).
The album was produced by McDonald “MacDee” Chidavaenzi at his Eternity Studios and carries 20 tracks riding on different several “riddims”.
Describing his 2016 release as a dynamic total package, King Shaddy, born Shadreck Kwarire, told The Weekender that it is an improvement from the previous ones and probably his career best.
“The wait for my loyal fans is finally over as this album is designed to give them that feel-good factor about Zim-dancehall in general and my music in particular.
It may have taken a long time coming, but was worth all the wait.
“Gosongo is peculiarly different from my other previous releases in the quality it carries. Besides the several tracks, we were particular about setting certain standards in both the message and tone and are really happy that we managed to achieve that.
Some of the riddims we rode on include the Back In Town by Bodyslam as well others done by PTK, Levels Productions and Fire King. Typically, most of the songs on the album were inspired by real life’s true events as we observed situations around us to fashion out the music.
“As the title suggests, this project was carefully and specifically put together for a particular purpose of positively influencing and enriching the lives our fans in whatever constructive way the music would affect them,” said King Shaddy on the sidelines of his show at Soul City last Saturday.
With some of the songs off the new album already receiving generous airplay on radio stations, with Flue, a duet with urban grooves diva Cindy Munyavi having stormed the Power FM Top 10 chart show, the Highfield-bred chanter expects the latest release to churn out more hits. Heat Wave, Tozvifonera, Bvudzi Musadza, Amai Mwana, Chikanganwa Babie, Shanda Hama, Magagaga, New Start and Chinotimba are some of the songs he singled out for special mention and predicted to be hits from the 20-track latest release.Meanwhile, the Letter To Mai Huni hitmaker put up an energetic performance and delighted the appreciative revellers with his impressive act at Soul City last weekend, during which he shared the stage with the night spot’s resident emcees Fresh, Selector Snaxx, Terminator and Foe-Mix.
