The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when three robbers armed with knives pounced on the Kaseke and Mujeyi when they stopped at traffic lights in Newlands.
“We had just dropped off Joe Njagu (director of ‘Lobola’ and ‘The Gentlemen’) at his flat in the Avenues and we were now driving off to Borrowdale when three armed men forced us out of the car at an intersection in
Newlands,” said Kaseke. “We were beaten with wooden clubs and the other assailant had a machete-like knife to my throat. They demanded our cellphones and money.”
The two were beaten severely when the assailants discovered that both of them only had US$18 on them.
They were then forced into the car and Kaseke was dumped in Epworth in his birthday suit while Mujeyi was dropped off in Mabvuku as the assailants made off with the car.
“Some good Samaritans saw me trudging down the road and took me to Hatfield Police Station where I was helped with some clothes and clean water to wash off the blood before making a report.
“The car was discovered later on that Saturday dumped in the CBD with the keys inside but the production material worth about US$1 000 and my clothes were not recovered,” he said.
Kaseke, together with Njagu and Philip Chiyangwa flew to South Africa on Sunday night to buy some filming equipment for their next movie titled “Mateo”.
Kaseke and Njagu’s Decent Arthouse Film Production Company has been contracted by Chiyangwa’s Son of Africa Productions to do three movies this year.
“We are working hand-in-hand with Mr Chiyangwa’s Son of Africa in three movie projects, namely ‘Mateo’ which will be shot locally, ‘Mr Roger’s Big Score’ which will be shot in South Africa,” Njagu said.
He said from South Africa they will go straight to Kenya then Nigeria to seal some distribution deals for “The Gentleman”.
“The Gentleman” stars Munyaradzi Chidzonga of Big Brother Africa fame, South African Presley Chweneyagae and Chiyangwa, who won the 2011 Best Director award at the American Film Festival.
