THE winds of change have blown through the Golden Arrows camp and they’ve swept away former Highlanders hotshot Knox Mutizwa!
In a move that’s shocked fans on both sides of the Limpopo, Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed that the long-serving striker was shown the door earlier this month, with whispers of “below-par performances” and other murky issues behind the scenes.
“We make these decisions as a team,” said a cagey Mngqithi after Arrows were thumped 3-0 by Orlando Pirates. “We prefer to keep our dirty laundry in-house.”
Dirty indeed.
Mutizwa, who joined the Durban outfit in 2017 after the collapse of Bidvest Wits, had become a fan favourite and a dependable goal-getter for Abafana Bes’thende. But his sudden fall from grace raises eyebrows, especially since his last match was a painful 1-0 defeat to rivals AmaZulu on April 26.
Adding fuel to the fire, defender Thabani Zuke was also chopped, with insiders alleging he signed a secret pre-contract with AmaZulu behind Arrows’ back.
While Mngqithi stayed tight-lipped on the full story, the message was loud and clear: No one is safe, not even club legends.
So what really happened behind the scenes?
Only the Arrows inner circle knows, and they’re not talking.
End of the road for Mutizwa… or just the calm before the comeback storm?
Watch this space.
