Inspector Abel Chimukoko had to jump to the driver’s door to avoid being run over. Gondo, who is a former soldier, was not asked to plead to attempted murder charge when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Godfrey Unzemoyo last week.
Mr Unzemoyo remanded him in custody to January 31 for trial.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani told the court that on January 13 this year, Gondo was taking a nap in the commuter omnibus that was dangerously parked along Nhema Road opposite OK Bazaar in Chitungwiza.
He had just relieved the driver of the bus. When Insp Chimukoko approached him intending to arrest him for dangerous parking, Gondo woke up and started the engine and drove straight towards him. Inspector Chimukoko swiftly jumped to the driver’s door and got hold of it, avoiding being knocked over.
Gondo accelerated and the passengers yelled at him to stop the vehicle.
He only stopped when he was blocked by another car in front and was subsequently arrested.
